Participant Equipment / Capabilities

WHAT  YOU'LL  NEED  TO  HAVE:

(CHECK ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS)

- Rifle with sling.  Iron sights, minimum.  Recommend red-dot or low-power scopes.

  - - 3x magazines, minimum.  Events can be expected to require at least 50 and perhaps over 100 rounds of rifle ammunition.  Variations or recommendations may be announced before events.

  - - Examples of "target audience" platforms:  AR-15/SR-25, M1A/Mini-14, FAL/FNC, HK-91/-93, SCAR 16/17, AK, AUG.  Minimum caliber:  5.45mm

NOTE:  A limited amount of ammunition (in common calibers such as 5.56, 7.62, 9, .45, etc) may be available for purchase by arrangement. Contact Jeff at Elite Rifles at 855-WAR TOOL or info@eliterifles.com.

  - - Shotguns (SGNs), pistol-caliber carbines (PCCs), .22 caliber carbines, long range/F-class type rifles, etc, will be integrated into specific events.  Check for event announcements.

- Sidearm with holster.  Holster must retain shape when empty and must retain sidearm through vigorous movement, to include accidentally falling.  If you didn't have to confirm that your holster would fit your model of sidearm, it's probably not acceptable.  Minimum caliber:  .38 / 9mm (5.7mm will be acceptable, .380 if it's your CCW).  We encourage you to use your CCW sidearm, if applicable.

  - - 2x magazines, minimum.  Events can be expected to require 20 rds of sidearm ammunition (obviously this is more than 2x mags if you're shooting, for ex a std 1911).

- Magazine and equipment pouches, such as MOLLE or LBE / LBV systems.  Less bulky systems will be acceptable if they meet the functional requirements.

- Sturdy belt.

- Lights:  handheld and/or mounted.  If you are using a WML on your sidearm, you may be required to use a holster that accepts the WML.

- Water.

- Eye protection.  Ear protection.  Hat with brim or bill.  Gloves.

- In the interests of maintaining a positive image, please do NOT wear full camouflage or military style clothing.

  - - Exception 1:  Certain events may call for full camo/uniform-style clothing.  These events will be specifically announced ahead of time.

  - - Exception 2:  Active Duty military (to include Reservists about to deploy) and LEOs are encouraged to wear their duty gear.

- Reflective belt/vest or markers (personal lights, cyalume sticks, etc) when dark.

WHAT  YOU  MIGHT  WANT  TO  HAVE:

- Shooting mat for certain events.

- Individual medicines if warranted (e.g. insect sting medicine) or an individual medical / first-aid kit.

- Insect repellant. Sunscreen. Knee and/or elbow pads. Etc.

- You are encouraged to bring more ammo for extra runs, extra practice, and extra events, as time allows.

- Etc.  Check the announcements for additional optional items.

WHAT  YOU'LL  NEED  TO  KNOW  OR  BE  ABLE  TO  DO:

- Participants will be expected to understand the operation (such as reloading), and corrective actions (such as clearing malfunctions) of their rifles and sidearms.  Assistance in these matters would be appropriate only during clinics / workshops.

- Particiants will be expected to run / jog / walk (as circumstances permit or require) while retaining equipment.  Participants should be able to safely move as much as 300 yards several times during the course of an event.

- Participants will be expected to safely draw their sidearm from the holster.  Assistance in this matter would be appropriate only during clinics / workshops.

- Participants will be expected to have their rifles sighted in and understand Points of Aim and Points of Impact from 15 - 300 yards.

Do not use armor piercing ammunition when shooting at metal targets.  Do not use tracer or incendiary ammunition.

These events are "Class III-friendly", but all NFA rules will apply.

MISC ADMIN:

- Participants should expect to assist in setting up and clearing courses of fire. Participants should also be prepared to assist by acting as timers, score recorders, brass and magazine collectors, etc. This will ensure we all enjoy and benefit from these events to the maximum extent possible.

- Shooters will be expected to remedy their problems and re-engage their targets during events.  For significant rifle failures on courses with targets at 50 yds or less from intended engagement point, shooters will have the option of pausing, making safe, and continuing the course with their sidearm (as opposed to taking several penalties for targets not hit or taking a "DNF" ("Did Not Finish").

  - - Problems will only be re-shot for issues out of their control.

    - - - This includes target failures, weather disruptions, major firearms / sighting system failures (DOES INCLUDE SQUIBS), RO misdirection, SAFETY issues, etc.

    - - - This does not include firearms status (loaded, in battery), FTFs / FTEs, etc. unless required in the interests of safety / common sense.

- Scoring to be announced as needed during course briefings.  These events are intended to balance speed and accuracy in a realistic problem.

- Unless dictated by safety requirements or course of fire requirements, you may choose your firing position.

- Unless dictated by course of fire requirements, reload as needed during events.

-  Participants may be required to move to the 300 yard line and back to demonstrate suitability of gear.

- Unless otherwise specified, events will begin from a relaxed position.

  - - Unless directed to do so, firers drawing sidearms from a surrender position or abandoning rifles will suffer an administrative penalty.

- We encourage you to think of creative ways to solve the problems, but do not "game" yourself out of the training opportunity or away from the intended nature of the challenge.  "You can change the solution, but not the problem."
